The Nigerian police have given a higher death toll of 47 students killed in the latest bombing to rock Potiskum, in Yobe state. Police also said 79 students were injured and that the bomb was detonated by a suicide bomber.
The students of Government Senior Science Secondary School in the state capital in the turbulent North east Nigeria, were gathered for morning assembly when the bomb went off, leading to a stampede.
Boko haram remains the chief suspect.
“There was an explosion detonated by a suicide bomber,” national police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu said, referring to the attack in Potiskum in Yobe state.
“We have 47 dead and 79 injured,” he added, saying that the Islamist extremists were believed to be responsible.
