329 councilors, eight ethnic nationalities in A’Ibom endorse Jonathan, Udom

With two days to the Presidential elections, councillors representing 329 wards in Akwa Ibom State have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan and Udom Emmanuel as their sole candidates in the Presidential and Governorship elections respectively.

This is even as ethnic nationalities resident in the state have endorsed the Jonathan and other PDP candidates as their sole candidate in the general elections.

 

The councillors under the aegis of Conference of Akwa Ibom State Councilors had while conveying their decision to the PDP governorship candidate during a solidarity visit to him in Uyo, expressed confidence of the ability of the duo to pilot the affairs of the country and state.

 

Chairman of the Councillors, Charles Bassey, said the body which comprises Councillors from the 329 political wards in the state said that they have already commenced grass root sensitization and mobilization for the PDP.

 

Emmanuel in his response commended the serving and former councillors on their decision to support the PDP and encouraged them to carry the message of transformation to the grassroots.

 

He maintained that the PDP remained the only national party in the country with the capacity to unite and improve the lot of all Nigerians.

 

Emmanuel who took time to unveil his development agenda for the entire state to the councillors, expressed satisfaction that the endorsement was coming from representatives of the grass root.

 

The ethnic nationalities include Arewa Peoples Assembly, Hausa Community in Akwa Ibom, Ijaw community, Yoruba community led by Alhaji Olukayode Oyekunle who is also the leader of the Yoruba Consultative Council.

 

The Igbo community were also represented during a solidarity visit by the group to the governorship candidate while other members of the G8 including Building Materials Association and National Automobile Technicians Association.

 

Addressing the PDP governorship hopeful, leaders of the various groups in their separate speeches, said they have settled in the state for decades, got married and raised their families in Akwa Ibom, and have contributed to the economic growth of the state through their private businesses.

 

They particularly commended the free and compulsory education policy of the PDP led government in the state which is been enjoyed by their children as well as the free health care programme, saying these were indications that the PDP meant well for all Nigerians.

 

Leader of the group, Kata Onyeziri, said the group which is made up of over 300,000 PVC carrying members, have resolved to vote for the re-election of the President to enable him to continue in the transformation of the country.

 

Emmanuel who was represented by the Director General of his campaign organisation, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga in his response assured that his government would fashion out programmes and policies that will also accommodate non indigenes in the scheme of things enjoining them to ignore the ongoing propaganda being championed by desperate politicians against the President.
