The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Wednesday confirmed to The Niche Online that its operatives were grilling Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke, husband of immediate-past minister for Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, for laundering $600,000 through his personal bank accounts.
Madueke was arrested by EFCC agents in Abuja for illegally laundering more than $600,000 through his personal accounts.
An informed EFCC source said he was arrested this morning in Abuja but as at 8.30pm when The Niche Online checked, he was still with the anti-corruption agency’s operatives answering questions about the huge funds laundered through his accounts. But it is believed that he would be granted administrative bail later.
Unconfirmed reports said EFCC has also seized Madueke’s passport and placed him under caution.
SaharaReporters said the former Naval Chief’s grilling is the latest in an ongoing global investigation into the financial activities of former minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was at the helm of the petroleum industry in Nigeria during the regime of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan during a time of unprecedented looting, analysts said.
