Oliseh gets second chance

Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh

*Faces N6 million fine over loose talk

*Minister demands apology for those he offended

*Insists Eagles must qualify for AFCON

Super Eagles Chief Coach Sunday Oliseh may have talked himself into a hefty fine to be determined by his employers after he dubbed his critics as “insane” in a You-tube clip.

Our reliable sources confided Tuesday that the fine could run up to N6 million.

Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung, who expressed disgust over the comments by the chief coach, however, pleaded with his employers (NFF) to give him a second chance.

Amid outcry from Nigerians, Oliseh sought to defuse the row by saying he was “sorry”.

However, Dalung insisted that the coach must make the plaster as big as the sore by extending his apology to all those he aimed his arrow at— NFF, Nigerian soccer fans, ex-internationals, back room staff and journalists.

We learned that though the Minister said it was an entirely employer/employee affair, he used the opportunity of a meeting to inform NFF President Amaju Pinnick that the nation eagerly looks forward to the Super Eagles’ qualifying for the African Cup of Nations.

The Eagles have an uphill task against the Pharaohs of Egypt on March 23 in Kaduna, with the return leg in Egypt four days later.

Also speaking from Doha, Qatar where he is currently attending the Congress of AIPS, President of the body, Mitchel Obi, said that he was not surprised at the outburst of Oliseh.

He said: “A Leopard does not change its spots. Wash a pig, comb a pig, it is still a pig. It is only a mad man that knows those who are insane.”
