The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited a former minister of Foreign Affairs and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tom Ikimi, over his role in the $2.1bn arms fund scandal.
According to Saharareporters, Ikimi was said to have been quizzed by the EFCC operatives for over two days and only allowed to go home each day after interrogation because of his health.
A source at the Commission told the online medium that Ikimi was involved in the $2.1 billion arms funds scandal and hence his present predicament.
Efforts made to confirm the story from the EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, proved abortive as calls to his phone did not get through at press time.
Ikimi defected from All Progressives Congress (APC) to support former president Goodluck Jonathan’s bid for a second term while Jonathan lost the decisive presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari later.
