30 injured, goods looted as govt officials, traders clash in Anambra market

At least 30 people sustained injuries Tuesday while goods worth about N10 million and ten vehicles were destroyed, when some traders opposed to imposition of a Caretaker Committee at the New Auto Spare Part Market, Nkpor clashed with officials sent by Anambra State government to inaugurate the committee appointed to run the market.

The traders last week protested against government imposition of a caretaker committee, suspension of their election and refusal by the former administration to render account of their stewardship for more thanover ten years’ tenure.

They appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to prevail on the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade and the Anambra Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (AMATAS) to allow them to conduct their election according to their constitutional provisions.
