A 29 year old tank installer/maintainer called Ahmed was recovered dead from petrol tank at a popular filling station in Ilorin

A 29-year-old petrol tank installer and maintenance officer, simply identified as Ahmed, has lost his life inside a petrol tank at a popular filling station along Offa garage road, Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The incident, according to the Kwara state Fire Service, occurred on Saturday night at about 07:25 pm at No 157 Bovas filling station located opposite Adisco bus stop on Ajase-Ipo road in the Ilorin metropolis while the deceased was carrying out maintenance job in the filling station.

The victim, it was gathered came from Ibadan with his boss for the job but suddenly suffocated while they were performing the maintenance work on a faulty petrol tank at the filling station and eventually died.

It was gathered that Ahmed’s dead was caused by his alleged carelessness of not putting on the necessary safety gear before he embarked on the maintenance of the petrol tank.

Kwara state Fire Service men were, however, able to evacuate the body from the tank and handed his remains over to his boss, Mr Abdulbasit Oladimeji.

According to a statment signed by Hassan Adekunle Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara state Fire Service on Sunday;

“A 29 year old tank installer/maintainer called Ahmed was recovered dead from petrol tank at a popular filling station in Ilorin, capital of Kwara.

“The terrible incident occurred last night at about 19:25hrs, No. 157 Bovas Filling Station opposite Adisco Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin.

“The victim man actually came from Ibadan with his boss for the job. While they were performing the maintenance work inside the petrol tank at the filling station, he suddenly got suffocated and eventually died in the tank.

“However, firemen were able to evacuate the body from the tank and handed over to his boss, Mr Abdulbasit Oladimeji.

“Report says, the casualty was too careless for his life without putting on the necessary safety gear before he engaged on the work.” Adekunle said.

Reacting to this incident, the director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the general public to be more safety conscious, particularly the workers, to always endeavor to use safety equipment at all time.
