2023: Miyetti Allah declares support for Tinubu

Miyetti Allah endorses the 2023 presidential bid of Tinubu. It is still unclear if the endorsement will be a plus for Tinubu

The presidential aspiration of former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, received the blessings of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

Tinubu informed President Muhammadu Buhari on January 10 that he would be seeking to replace him as the president of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.

Tinubu’s presidential aspiration has been received with mixed reactions from Nigerians.

But Miyetti Allah says Tinubu remains its preferred choice for the presidency of Nigeria because the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader has shown interest in their situation.

Miyetti Allah disclosed this on Sunday after a meeting at the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute in Abuja.

The meeting was attended by Fulani leaders from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

“We are also scanning the people showing interest in the presidential seat with Bola Tinubu leading because he was the one that intervened in our matter while he was governor of Lagos, State and when we had a crisis in Benue,” Ya’u Haruna, the convener of the meeting and one-time chairman of the Jigawa chapter of Miyetti Allah said.

“Tinubu came all the way, got us on a round table and reconciled us, so, someone who could do this at that time, we believe can do more when he is at the helm of affairs.”

The Miyetti Allah leader says many Fulanis in Nigeria are seen as criminals.

“We are not in any way saying there are no criminals that engage in kidnapping, cattle rustling, banditry and other crimes. But it must also be known that a larger percentage of our people live peacefully and conduct their legitimate businesses,” Haruna said.

It is still unclear if MACBAN’s endorsement of Tinubu could bolster or weaken his chances because of the negative perception about the organization. Recalled that the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, once described MACBAN as a terrorist organization.
