The former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, on Monday, October 9, 2017, held a meeting with the former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), and the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubarkar Sani Bello, in

Minna, the state capital.

Kalu, accompanied by his political associates arrived Minna in the morning and headed for the Hill Top residence of Babangida where they held closed door meeting which lasted for about an hour after which he also met Governor Bello at Government House, Minna.

The former governor’s visit may not be unconnected with speculations on the possibility that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) may consider his presidential ambition in the 2019 general elections.

After the meeting with IBB, Kalu said that he was in Minna to visit the former Military Head of State, stressing that he was a politician, who loves building bridges of friendship.

Kalu also hinted about his future ambition.

His words: “I am a law-abiding citizen of this country and a politician so I have the right to contest elections if the need arises. And if Nigerians deem it necessary I do so”.

On whether President Muhammadu Buhari should consider a second-term in office, Kalu,  who denied making any unpleasant comments about the Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB, however, said, ‘‘President Buhari has the right to contest for a second-term in 2019 if he chooses to; except if the north decides otherwise.

“I didn’t say anything bad about the IPOB. What I said was that IPOB has the right for agitations but has no right to call for the splitting of Nigeria”, adding that those who were accusing him of passing such comments did not even read the paper he granted interview.

“I have always believed that burning our state is not the solution, just as endangering the lives of millions of Igbo in northern Nigeria and across parts of the world for the sake of an individual is not worth the pain. But I have equally supported that equity, justice and fairness to all.

“Agitation is not by the Igbo people alone but has become a national order.

“It is not only IPOB that is not happy with what is happening in Nigeria today. We need orientation and urgently too in the Nigerian business”.
