2015: I-G reassures of adequate security, urges politicians to shun violence

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, has reassured Nigerians that the force will redouble its effort to ensure optimal safety and security in all communities across the nation.

 

A statement issued by the Force spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Friday, said Abba gave the assurance after he reviewed strategies adopted to ensure crime-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He said between December 2014 and Jan. 5, there was drastic reduction in crime across nationwide with reference to serious crimes such armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, and attack on policemen.

 

 

Abba also said that there was reduction in road accidents in the period under review.

 

 

He noted that the reduction was made possible by changing attitude of policemen in the fight against all forms of crimes and criminality.

 

 

Abba also attributed this to officers “efficiency and thoroughness and meticulous attention to details in the performance of their duties’’.

 

 

He said during the period under review, they placed more emphasis on preventive measures, thorough intelligence gathering techniques which resulted in reduction in crime and other vices.

 

 

Abba promised to build on the successes achieved by force in 2015 and promote community partnership to prevent crime.

 

 

He also promised to continue to encourage a level playing ground for all political parties, and call on candidates to shun acts of thuggery/violence before, during and after the elections.

 

 

Abba appealed to the candidates to prevail on their supporters to shun acts of violence.
