The Rivers State Police command has arrested two persons in connection with an abduction of a female worshipper at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Echue Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Simply identified as Mrs. Woryi, the victim, the church members, claimed is a close associate of the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience.
The Commissioner for Police in the state, Mr. Dan Bature, who confirmed this in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the duo were arrested based on distress call from members of the public when the abduction took place.
Bature stated that policemen based on information from the public went in pursuit of the abductors and the two were arrested while the others escaped into the creeks.
He disclosed that the two suspects have confessed to the crime and gave useful information to the police that would soon lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects and the rescue of the victim.
The police commissioner said his men are on the trail of the kidnappers and are working around the clock to rescue the woman.
It was gathered that the woman was kidnapped at about 9.00 am on Sunday, March 8, 2015, when the kidnappers invaded her church as she was trying to park her vehicle in the church premises.
Sources in the church premises said before the police arrived the church premises, the abductors had escaped with the woman.
