International Women Day: NAWOJ advocates gender parity

As the world celebrates the International Women Day, the Nigeria Women Journalists (NAWOJ ) in Bayelsa State marked theirs in the markets and streets of Yenagoa to sensitize the women on the need to accord all children equal rights.

The group also advised women to play active role in influencing policy making in the country.

According to the South-South Zonal President  of NAWOJ, Timi Jombo, parents  should accord the same attention to all children, stressing, “Gone were the days when the girl chil education was neglected, whereas attention was given only to the male child.”

She pointed out that NAWOJ had been on forefront to canvass for the change in the narratives, as “the girl child is endowed with the same capacity and capability towards the development of society as history is replete with women that had excelled in many endeavours of life.”

Also, Bayelsa State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Maria Olodi-Osumah, called on women to register in the ongoing voters’ registration and obtain their permanent voters’ registration cards so that they can participate effectively to enthrone  credible leaders who will liberate the women and children from current quagmire they found themselves in the society.

She also advised them to be ready to vote and be voted for in elective positions in every ramifications of politics.

The women later took the campaign round the ever-busy Mbiama- Yenagoa road.
