Dr. Ofunne Obaze, wife of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Anambra 2017 governorship elections, has revealed the plan of the candidate to run an efficient tax system.
Speaking in Awka on Monday during the tour of PDP Women, Dr. Obaze said her husband, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, has plans to harmonise the current tax system. She decried the effects of multiple taxation re-introduced by the current administration. According to her, the PDP candidate, if elected, will expand the state’s tax base, reduce tax burden and introduce solitary monthly payments. She said the move is aimed at relieving the plight of market women who are struggling to make ends meet and also take care of the family.
She also said the PDP candidate and his running mate will genuinely make Awka a befitting capital city. She recounted the struggles of various governments to live up to the usual campaign promise of transforming the Awka capital city, saying it failed because of lack of proper planning and government commitment. She said that plans and results of studies on how to transform the capital city is already available.
Dr. Obaze reminded the crowd that her husband had, as SSG to former Governor Peter Obi, attracted foreign partners to Okpoko who did a study on the city for urban renewal but the plan failed to materialize owing to their lack of confidence in the current administration. She assured that with Mr. Obaze in the saddle, that Anambra will leverage on the the synergy that exits between him and development partners to transform Awka into a modern city.
The US-trained paediatrician reiterated the commitment of the PDP to offer free, quality and compulsory education from kindergarten to JS3, as well as raise the budget for education from what it currently is to 26 percent as recommended by UNICEF.
She further stated that one of the quick starts of their government will be the reintroduction of five thousand Naira social welfare package for the aged and the introduction of Charity Care which will attend to the free healthcare of indigent citizens and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
Dr. Obaze was in the company of Mrs. Margaret Obi, wife of the former governor and women stakeholders in Awka South Local Government area.
