12.5kg cooking gas refill price hits N10,203.13

Cooking gas price has jumped 1.81 per cent for 5k refill, and kerosene 2.09 per cent a litre, posting a double whammy for families already struggling with the rocketing costs of other household items, including staple foods.

The average price of 12.5kg refill is now N9,247.40 with Cross River notching the highest at N10,203.13, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The report shows the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) for 5kg refill rose 1.81 per cent month-on-month (MoM) from N4,115.32 in August to N4,189.96 in September, but dipped 6.36 per cent year-on-year (YoY) from N4, 474.48 in September 2022.

That of kerosene ticked up 2.09 per cent MoM from N1,272.40 in August to N1,299.03 in September, and 37.13 per cent YoY from N947.30 in September 2022.

The NBS said the cost of 12.5kg cooking gas refill rose 0.58 per cent MoM from N9,194.41 in August to N9,247.40 in September, but dropped 6.65 per cent YoY from N9, 906.44 in September 2022, per reporting by The Guardian.

The report disclosed average kerosene price per gallon increased 0.64 per cent MoM from N4, 351.53 in August to N4, 379.31 in September, and 35.32 per cent YoY from N3, 236.27 in September 2022.
