Go Round FC in Benin for Champions tournament

Players and officials of Go Round FC have arrived in Benin for the Champion of Champions football tournament.

The Omoku based team departed from its base on Wednesday morning for the tournament to be played between all states FA Cup champions in the South South region of Nigeria.

The draws held at 5pm on Wednesday, May, 18, 2016 while the tournament proper started on Thursday morning, May 19 with the games to be played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

General Manager of Go Round FC, Soni Uboh, said that the tournament in Benin was preparatory ground for the Federation Cup games that start on Wednesday in Makurdi against Yobe Desert Stars.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to be in combative mood for that game in MAkurdi,” Uboh said.

Coach of the team, Ngozi Elechi, also added that the players were ready and rearing to go.

“Winning the Rivers State FA Cup was one thing. Doing well in the Federation Cup and NNL is another. This tournament will provide competitive edge for us to face the challenges ahead of us from next week,” Elechi said.

Sponsored by the FROT group, winner of the tournament takes home one million naira while the runners up go home with five hundred thousand naira.

Go Round FC won the Rivers State FA Cup, beating favoured side, Rivers United, via penalties after full time ended 1-1.
