The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has lambasted the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, over the looting of the silos and food stores in Ado Ekiti by angry protesters.

The Ekiti State Chairman of PDP, Otunba Bisi Kolawole, said at the weekend that the looting was a testimony of the misgovernance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government both in the state and at the federal levels.

His words: “It is shameful that Ekitiland is being ravaged by chronic hunger under the watch of Governor Kayode Fayemi, such that people from the Fountain of Knowledge and Land of Honour won’t mind scavenging for food from anywhere.”

Through his Special Adviser on Media, Bola Agboola, the PDP chieftain also accused the Fayemi government of resorting to the use of armed thugs to attack peaceful protesters thereby depriving the people of their legitimate right to lawful gathering and peaceful protest.

Kolawole, who condemned looting of public and private properties, said what happened in Ado Ekiti Friday, when people invaded the silos and storage facility of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) was a pointer to the fact that Fayemi’s administration has failed in its primary responsibility of providing security and seeing to welfare of the people.

He said that it was unexplainable that food items would be kept somewhere by the state government, while the people were unable to feed.

The PDP chairman said: “That the government even had to announce yesterday that the grains carted away at the Silos in Ado Ekiti were meant for planting shows the highest level of corruption and insensitivity on the part of the government.

“If those grains are actually meant for planting, why were they kept till this time?  Why were they not distributed to farmers who needed them?

“Again, we saw sugar, noddles, Lab Coats meant for health personnel, disinfectant chemicals and hand sanitizer packs. Were those items also preserved for planting?

“Reality that Fayemi and his praise singers must face is that Ekitis are angry with a government that has been inflicting pains on them since it was forced on them in 2018.

“The people are frustrated and won’t mind doing anything just to survive and this is understandable.

“What should those over 3,000 Ekiti sons and daughters sacked by Fayemi do? Won’t they also struggle to survive?  If they see somewhere

that food items meant for the people are kept, won’t they take the risk of getting some so as to be able to feed and stay alive?

“Even though the Fayemi-led APC government has lost face with the people and it is certain that the party will be sent out of power in 2022,  we still have a duty to call on the governor to review its style of administration to make life easier and more meaningful for the people.”
